The Woolshed

When the Woolshed was built, they wanted a multi lingual audio and lighting system, where the chosen foreign language was broadcast to wireless receivers that the overseas guests wore. This system was PC driven, again with several CD drives in the computer. One drive played the main soundtrack in English, and the others played a translated narration in the chosen language through a radio headphone system.
The software that Rod Nielsen wrote, controlled all the theatrical lighting effects in the show by looking at the time code on the CD. The different translations sort of followed the main show track.
The speakers for the system were Dino MkII’s, the first Dino’s to have the 30 watt amps built inside them. The speakers were mounted up in the peak of the ceiling. We had to put a step ladder on the top of a 6 metre high scaffold and it was very precarious. We never did that sort of thing again!
The PC system usually worked well, but on occasions it would get confused and someone from audio had to go up and give it a stern talking to. Rod Nielsen, Ross Wood, or myself would normally do the deed.
The host of the Sheep Shearing show had a lapel radio microphone which he put under his singlet, with the transmitter on his belt. Much like the reptile and koala show, we had several spare lapel mics to swap with when one was damaged.
